Ciscoの OpenStack加入について、Lew Tucker, Chief technology officer for
cloud computingが Registerに答えています:
"Cisco aims network code at 'Linux kernel for the cloud'"
27th April 2011
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/04/27/cisco_on_openstack_networking/
"Lew Tucker - Cisco's chief technology officer for cloud computing -
says that the networking giant has joined the OpenStack project
because "a lot" of its customers are running the open source
platform and it hopes to "learn" from the project."
.....
"Specifically, Tucker said, Cisco wants to create a fourth platform
within the OpenStack family dedicated to networking. Currently,
the project consists of OpenStack Compute, which handles processing;
OpenStack Object Storage, the storage platform; and the OpenStack
Image Registry and Delivery Service, for juggling virtual machine
images."
"There's an existing blueprint for an OpenStack networking platform,
but Cisco recently published a new proposal to the OpenStack wiki."

"OpenStack 'floating Linux kernel' rides VMware hypervisor"
15th April 2011
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/04/15/openstack_cactus_released/
"OpenStack - the open source "infrastructure cloud" project founded
by Rackspace and NASA - has released a third version of its platform,
offering support for all major hypervisors."
"With the new release, codenamed "Cactus", developers have added support
for VMware's vSphere hypervisor - without help from VMware. The vSphere
code was built mostly by Citrix, which had previously coded support for
the Xen and XenServer hypervisors."
.....
"OpenStack also offers support for the KVM, LXC, QEMU, and UML
hypervisors, and even Microsoft's HyperV. Microsoft didn't contribute
the code itself, but it did officially contract with startup Cloud.com
on the effort."
.....
"The project includes two major platforms: OpenStack Compute and
OpenStack Object Storage. OpenStack Compute is based on Nova,
a compute engine and fabric controller designed and built by NASA, and
OpenStack Object Storage grew out of Swift, an object storage platform
built by Rackspace. Nova underpins NASA's internal Nebula compute cloud,
and a version of Swift drives Cloud Files, Rackspace's public storage
service."
