"In an initiative that aims to boost the nation's economic competitiveness,
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory today announced the opening of
the High Performance Computing Innovation Center (HPCIC).

The innovation center will facilitate national lab/industry collaboration,
applying high performance computing to product design, development and
manufacturing, data management and the operation of complex energy and
communication systems. Industries expected to benefit from the use of HPC
range from aerospace, automotive and transportation to utilities, energy,
health care, finance, materials manufacturing, nanotechnology and consumer
   electronics."

"With the support of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear
Security Administration and Office of Science, Sandia National
Laboratories/California and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are
working collaboratively to create an open, unclassified research and
development space called the Livermore Valley Open Campus (LVOC).

The motivation for the LVOC stems from current and future national
security challenges that require increased coupling to the private sector
to understand threats and deploy solutions in areas such as energy and
environmental security, economic security, cyber security, high
   performance computing and non-proliferation."
.....
"As currently envisioned, the LVOC will consist of an approximately
110-acre parcel along the eastern edge of the Sandia and Livermore
   Laboratory sites bordering Greenville Road."

110 acre = 44.5 hectare (0.445 square km)
